Joy through Generosity

“You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous in every way. Such generosity produces thanksgiving to God…” ~2 Corinthians 9:11

employmentJesus affirmed that God loves us.  Each day, He challenges us to live in response to that love by loving others.  That’s not always easy.  It demands that we cultivate a generous spirit:  one that offers patience, humility and forgiveness.

The 2014 stewardship theme is Joy through Generosity.  It reminds us, as Paul explained to the Corinthians, that we become thankful and find joy when we share our gifts with others.  As the narrative budget we mailed to you earlier demonstrates, our congregation has many assets for carrying out the church’s missions.  We are truly rich in faith, in service, in love, in talent, in caring for one another, and in financial capability.

Generosity does not repay a debt, fulfill an obligation or even respond to a need.  Instead, generosity flows from our knowledge and experience of God’s love.  In viewing stewardship this way, we move from worrying about the perceived scarcity of our possessions to celebrating the true abundance of God’s blessings.

We are grateful to all who pledged during the Stewardship Campaign.  If you would like to still submit a pledge, pledge cards for 2014 are available in the back of the sanctuary, New Stone, Boyd Chapel and brochure racks.  Place your completed pledge card in one of the envelopes provided and put it in the offering plate, or you can bring it to the church office.  You may also submit a pledge online by clicking here (pledges will be sent confidentially to Jennifer White, our church bookkeeper).
