Mission Council

The Mission Council of First Presbyterian Church coordinates and supports our church’s local, national, and international outreach ministries. Working in partnership with other church councils, small groups, and community organizations, the Mission Council helps FPC live out its calling to serve Christ and neighbor in the heart of Winchester and beyond.

Our work includes financial support, hands-on service, disaster response, refugee assistance, hunger relief, and long-term mission partnerships in the United States and around the world. Through these efforts, we seek to participate in the work God is already doing in our community and across the globe.

Special Offerings & Churchwide Missions

The Mission Council also coordinates the three Special Offerings of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), which support hunger relief, disaster assistance, peacemaking, and the ministry with and the well-being of church leaders. In addition, ongoing offerings and designated gifts allow FPC to respond to both local and global needs throughout the year.

Key Areas of Ministry

Mission Council-supported ministries include:

  • Housing and shelter through the WATTS program

  • Refugee resettlement and welcome ministries

  • Hunger relief through multiple regional food pantries and community meals

  • Emergency financial assistance through the Helper Fund

  • School Supply and Christmas Gift drives through Bright Futures
  • Disaster preparedness and response

  • Community-wide outreach such as the annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner

  • International mission partnerships, including long-standing relationships in Guatemala and Ethiopia and FPC's New Global Mission-Malawi GENESIS Preschools for Vulnerable Children.

A Commitment to Compassionate Service

The Mission Council’s work is made possible through the generous giving of time, talent, and resources by the congregation of FPC. Together, we strive to make Christ’s love tangible through faithful service, compassionate care, and partnerships that reflect God’s justice and mercy in the world.
